At Dunseith Day School, we believe strong family involvement is essential to student success. We are committed to fostering meaningful partnerships among parents/guardians, teachers, and students to create a supportive learning environment. We encourage and facilitate family engagement through the following initiatives:

Student-Teacher-Parent Compact

Our Student-Teacher-Parent Compact outlines the shared responsibilities of students, teachers, and families in supporting academic achievement:

  • Students commit to respecting themselves and others, participating actively in class, attending school regularly, completing assignments, reading daily, and reporting or standing up against bullying.
  • Teachers and staff pledge to create a collaborative learning environment, uphold school expectations, communicate with families, address bullying concerns, and help students meet academic standards.
  • Parents/Guardians play a vital role by ensuring their child attends school prepared, encouraging homework completion, attending conferences, promoting positive behavior, and staying engaged in their child's education.

School-Wide Parent Policy

To strengthen family involvement, Dunseith Day School promotes the following efforts:

  1. Parent Engagement Programs – We offer programs, activities, and procedures that encourage family participation in school-wide initiatives.
  2. Annual Meetings – Parents/guardians are invited to fall and spring meetings to learn about and provide input on federally funded school programs.
  3. Parent Advisory Committee – This committee ensures all parents  have the opportunity to participate in the planning, review, and improvement of school programs through regular meetings and feedback opportunities.
  4. Timely Communication – We provide regular updates on school programs, student assessments, and learning opportunities, including tutoring and summer programs.
  5. Assessment Information – Parents/guardians receive detailed reports and can meet with staff to discuss data and provide input.
  6. Annual Compact Review – The School-Parent Compact is updated yearly with staff, families, and the school board input.
  7. Parent-Teacher Conferences – We host two scheduled conferences each year to review student progress, address concerns, and strengthen school-home communication. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact teachers anytime with questions or request additional meetings.
  8. Parent/Guardian Education—We offer resources to help parents/guardians understand national education goals, academic standards, and strategies for supporting student learning at school and at home.
  9. Skill Development Opportunities—Through partnerships with local agencies, we offer training and resources to help families support their children's education.
  10. Staff Training – Teachers and staff receive professional training on effective family engagement strategies.
  11. Parent Leadership Development—We invite parents/guardians to participate in leadership training to increase their involvement in school activities and decision-making.
  12. Community Partnerships – We collaborate with local businesses and organizations to enhance family and community engagement.
  13. Classroom Observations – Parents/guardians are welcome to observe classroom instruction after signing in in accordance with school safety procedures.
  14. Inclusive Participation – We provide materials and accommodations for parents/guardians with limited English proficiency or disabilities and offer home visits or flexible meeting options as needed.
  15. Annual Policy Evaluation—We review our family engagement policy each year to assess its effectiveness and address barriers to participation.

At Dunseith Day School, we value the partnership between families and educators. We can create a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
