Library and Accelerated Reader Program

The Dunseith Day School Library provides students access to reading resources and supports literacy through the Accelerated Reader Program.

Accelerated Reader (AR) Program

Second through eighth-grade students participate in the AR Program during designated library times. The program encourages independent reading and comprehension assessment through the following steps:

  • Check out a library book, read quietly, and complete AR tests to assess comprehension.
  • Set and pursue individualized AR goals based on the program's point calculations.

Rewards and Incentives

  • Second through fifth grade: Students who meet their AR goals can use points to “purchase” items in the AR Store. Points accumulate each quarter without limits, and goals are recalculated quarterly.
  • Sixth through eighth grade: Students who meet their AR goals may redeem points in the AR Store or participate in a field trip at the end of each quarter. Due to planning constraints, students may only redeem points in the AR Store in the fourth quarter.

Kindergarten and First Grade

Kindergarten and first-grade teachers will select books for classroom use, providing students with a guided reading experience to support early literacy skills.

Book Return and Fines

To maintain the availability of library resources for all students, the following policies apply:

  • Overdue Books: Fines range from $5.00 to $10.00 for books that are not returned.
  • Checkout Restrictions: Students with unpaid fines or unreturned books will temporarily be unable to check out additional materials until the fines are resolved.
