School Board

The school board is composed of dedicated parents and guardians who work together to create a positive and productive learning environment for all students. Opportunities to Serve: Running for a Board Position
Parents and legal guardians of current students may run for a position on the school board during the annual October elections. Serving as a board member provides a valuable opportunity to contribute to the school community and support educational initiatives.
Board Member Requirements
- Candidates must be legal guardians of a student enrolled at the school.
- Proof of guardianship, including legal documentation (if not the biological parent), may be required.
- Board members must take an Oath of Office before beginning their service term.
Election Process
- Election Date: Elections are held annually on the third or fourth Tuesday in October.
- Voter Eligibility: Parents and legal guardians of current students are eligible to vote.
- Nominations: Nomination requests are distributed each October with the ballot allowing for write-in candidates.
- Term Start: Board members’ terms begin at the first board meeting following the election.
Board Meetings and Communication
Monthly board meetings are open to parents, guardians, and community members, and they provide public input and transparency opportunities.
- Meeting Schedule: The board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.
- Location: Meetings are typically held at the school unless otherwise announced.
- Public Attendance: Meetings are open to the public, except in cases requiring an executive session to discuss confidential matters.
Policy Development and Key Decisions
The school board creates and revises school policies to align with best practices and community needs. Proposals for new policies or amendments may come from parents, school staff or board members, with annual reviews conducted to assess policy effectiveness.
- Key Policies: attendance, discipline, and anti-bullying, among others.
- School Calendar & Closures: The board approves the annual school calendar, including holidays, parent-teacher conferences and in-service days. The principal has the authority to close the school if conditions are unsafe (e.g., inclement weather).
School Board Members
The board consists of five elected members, each serving a two-year term. Members include parents or legal guardians of current students who were elected by the school community. Each member brings valuable insight and dedication to the role, contributing to a collaborative approach to school governance.
